Building Relationships with Parents

The research into parental engagement has been some of the most consistent research in education over the past 30 years. Two things are clear*:
(1) Parental engagement with education (rather than just schooling) makes a huge difference;
(2) Most approaches to try to improve engagement with the hard to reach parents have had little impact.
However, the reasons for why most approaches have had limited success are surprising to many.
We have nearly ten years experience of delivering training to staff in building meaningful relationships with parents. The training addresses practical issues such as language, mindset, accessibility, and practical tools to bridge the gap.
