Understanding burnout, self care and what makes mentally healthy schools

Who will benefit from this training?

School leaders at all levels, including aspiring leaders.

Format of training

This training, lasting between one and three hours depending on the school's content requirements, can be delivered live online via Zoom at a mutually convenient time for your school leadership team(s). Please contact us with any queries or to arrange a date and time for training on areas that are most important to you.

Training overview

This training will give school leaders a deeper understanding of school factors that contribute to a decline in wellbeing, mental health and burnout. Features of mentally healthy schools will also be explored. Most importantly, practical strategies to take care of ourselves and manage our stress levels will be shared along with suggestions as for developing a more positive culture and ways to support school staff wellbeing. All course participants will receive a set of interactive course notes and a certificate of attendance.

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • understand what may cause burnout and poor wellbeing;
  • have examined frameworks and know signs of burnout;
  • have developed knowledge of the perils of heightened anxiety and steps to take to avoid this;
  • have a more detailed understanding of a range of strategies and acts to maintain self care, including the importance of social connections;
  • be aware of features of a mentally healthly schools;
  • know practical ways to support the wellbeing of other staff.

Course presenter

Mike Crossley has a huge range of experience in education. He was a headteacher for 14 years, is a Level 7 executive coach and mentor, a MHFA and NUCO Youth Instructor and a qualified Senior Mental Health lead.
